Abstract:
The Western world is currently witnessing a drastic ascension of national populism, with the United Kindom´s exit from the Europen Union and Donald Trump having been elected President Of the United States. Such trend was even accompained by U.S self-withdrawal from several multilateral frameworks - namely the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Paris Agreement, and trade protectionism, which is likely to generate a power vacuum in the international community in which it has been assuming the leadership for decades. How would China perceive and react to this ideological and political shift in the West? Would China adjust its long-standing pacifisct foreign policy to take a proactive stance in global governance with aim of replacing the U.S leading role? This paper seeks to analyzing how and to what extent the rise of national populism in major Western powers would impact on China´s foreign policy, and discuss whether there would be a shift of China´s role in global arena.

Resumo:
Atualmente, com a saída do Reino Unido da União Europeia e a eleição de Donald Trump como Presidente dos Estados Unidos, podemos afirmar que, no mundo ocidental, se verifica uma drática ascenção do populismo nacionalista. Para além disso, a esta tendência, está, ainda, associada a retirada dos EUA de alguns mecanismos multilaterais - nomeadamente, a Parceria Trans-Pacífico e o Acordo de Paris - e pelo protecionismo comercial. Tudo isto está propenso a gerar um vazio de poder na comunidade internacional, na qual os EUA têm assumido um papel de liderança durante décadas. Como conceberá e reagirá a China a tais mudanças ideológicas e políticas no Ocidente? Será que a China ajustará a sua tradicional política externa pacifista para uma postura mais pro-ativa no que toca à governança global, com intuito de substituir a liderança dos EUA? Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar como e em que medida o ressurgimento do populismo nacionalista nas principais potências ocidentais afetará a política externada China, e abordar a possibilidade de uma transformação do papel deste país na arna global.

Abstract:
The research focuses on the Portuguese community living in Macao. It analyses the uses of media - etnical, mainstream and transnational - by immigrants, during the integration process: in the preservation of the links with their home country and in the adaptation into the new society, in which the host language assumes a crucial role. Theoretically, the research is based on the model of Uses and Gratifications of media (Katz & Blumler, 1974), on Berry´s model of Acculturation Strategies (Berry & Sam, 2006) and on Bourdieu´s Theory of Power and Practice (Bourdieu, 1991), specifically in what concerns Language as a Symbolic Power. The methodology relied on 29 in-depth interviews in the Portuguese community. After the interviews, we did a content analysis, individually and transversally. This thesis aims to contribute fot the enrichment of lines of research on active audience studies and as a source of information to immigrants integration policies. For media companies, they may use this information to better adapt their contents to this specific target.

Resumo: 

Este artigo trata o sincretismo entre a diáspora do Hinduísmo Lusófono e suas comunidades transnacionais (Diu, Moçambique, Portugal, Londres e Leicester) e o Catolicismo Português. E é justamente a Nossa Senhora de Fátima que é integrada no panteão hindu. De facto, a Nossa Senhora de Fátima, figura, por excelência, do Catolicismo Português, que é associada de uma forma bem mais explícita, desta feita, à Deusa hindu, como se também uma das suas manifestações se tratasse. Assim como pude observar no meu trabalho de campo em Inglaterra, os migrantes hindus com origem Diu, passando por Moçambique, migrando de Portugal para Wembley em Londres e Leicester também mantêm o culto à Nossa Senhora de Fátima. Neste artigo, desenvolvem-se as peregrinações hindus de Portugal e das restantes comunidades hindus da diáspora ao Santuário de Fátima.

Abstract:

This article deals with the syncretism between the diaspora of Lusophone Hinduism and its transnational communities (Diu, Mozambique, Portugal, London and Leicester) and Portuguese Catholicism. And it is precisely Our Holy Lady of Fatima that is integrated into the Hindu pantheon. In fact, Our Lady of Fatima, figure, par excellence, of Portuguese Catholicism, is associated in a much more emplicit way, to the Hindu Goddess. As I observed in my field work in England, the Hindu migrants from Diu, through Mozambique, migrating from Portugal to Wembley in London, and Leicester also maintain the cult of Our Lady of Fatima. In this article, the Hindu pilgrimages of Portugal and the Rest Hindu communities of the diaspora to the Shrine of Sanctuary of Fatima are developed.
